The low down on SEO

The lowdown on SEO

There are several factors that contribute to SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). We can’t emphasise enough how important it is to have your website’s SEO working well.  Getting these factors right will most likely result in more efficient and effective leads for your business.

Here are our top tips for mastering SEO so your website ranks well from a user search perspective.

Content is king

It’s a gold medal for you if you have great content. Content still matters most. Your content must be relevant to your market and be fresh and engaging to the reader. It’s also important that the keywords chosen for each page are peppered throughout the page content. This helps google recognise that it is, in fact, relevant content.

Mobile Friendly is not negotiable

Your website MUST be mobile friendly to be found easily by users given that most of us do our searching from smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. Every other mobile-friendly website will be ranked before a non-mobile friendly site. Plus, page speed load is crucial too. The mobile friendly version of your website must also be easy to navigate. To check if your site is mobile friendly:

Title tags/Headers

Title tags are the first thing someone sees in the search results and are crucial to help Google determine the topic of a page and serve that page to a similar user search query. The title tag needs to contain key words and be less than 70 characters. Some of the experts suggest thinking of title tags as advertising headlines – catchy, unique and containing 1-2 keywords specific to that individual page.

Links – Internal and External

Links certainly matter when it comes to the power of ranking. They give weight to the site content and general speaking, add credibility.  Internal links go from one page of the site to another page on the site. They are crucial in enabling users to easily navigate the site. External Links are when another site links to your website. It’s important that all ‘linking’ is done ethically.

Image tags

Ensure that all images on your website are tagged correctly. Search engines not only find your site through content but by images as well. Ensure that your photos have the right descriptions and have keyword rich file names. This is also ideal for accessibility for all different types of users who may need to use software to read your website for them.

Social Media

Social media is a must these days and websites need to include social media links to make it easy for customers / consumers to engage with the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the plethora of others. Any content updates on your website should also be posted on any social media networks to increase visibility, profile and engagement with followers.

Review platforms

It matters to us what others think about your business or service. As consumers, someone else’s experience with your business carries weight. Depending on the nature of your industry, be sure that reviews, be they from Google, Trip Advisor, Yelp etc are linked to your site. It’s important to manage the reviews and address any negative comments as well as positive. This will help build credibility.

Linking Google Search to Google Analytics

It’s important to know as much about your customers as possible and accessing key information is easy through Google Analytics. Linking Google Search to Google Analytics enables you to analyse your website’s traffic and also gives you access through google search console to some handy tools for ensuring your website is in the best shape.
